-Are there discrepancies? What
are they?
|
3. Develop deeper understanding, Engage in
Self-Reflection, Explore Patterns, Determine Direction a.
determine whether or not there is a significant difference between actual and
perceived styles b.
discuss why there are differences (is it teaching style or teachers own
learning style causing issues)

4 Take Action, Sustain Improvement a. Based on findings, create and
plan a mini-staff development on learning styles for the beginning of next
year. b. Do
the learning styles inventory at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year,
provide teachers with data so that they are able to plan accordingly for more

Mini-Professional development on learning styles
|
-Are teachers able to apply the information to their teaching styles?
-Is there any kind of measurable difference from 2012-13 success to
2013-14 success when learning style teaching was implemented?

I would like to know more about learning styles myself! This is interesting because as teachers we think we know a child's learning style. Once teachers are given a staff development on this, are they going to start using these inventories at the beginning of each year and when they get new students? Will there be any follow-up to see if teachers are individualizing based on the information they get from the inventories? Will the research involve how it might actually affect student success if teachers planned according to learning styles? On a personal note, are there good inventories out there for young children (first grade)? I need to look into that. Please let me know if you're aware of any.
ReplyDeleteYou might want to break some of the 4 steps into smaller steps so that you can have more incremental progress points. Also, if you can involve additional collaborators (resource persons) I think you will get more out of the project in many ways...
ReplyDeleteHow are you going to evaluate the learning? The learning styles would have different evaluations to show the learning- or are you going to use the same test for each learning style? Would each student choose a different style then evaluate each individually or are you using a state test? Wondering about methodology and how you would group. Learning styles I have seen in the past would have one student create a song, another a poster etc. which provide subjective learning answers. I was curious what approach you would take. (didn't know if I was clear what I meant!)It is an interesting topic- too often education expects a one size fits all approach.
