An analysis of how educational leaders might use blogs

Blogs are useful!  I have a personal blog that I use to keep family and friends all over the world updated.  I follow several different kinds of blogs as well...”mommy” blogs, craft blogs, photography blogs, devotional blogs, special needs blogs, and my favorite, teacher blogs!  All of these blogs have several things in common, but one thing all blogs (including those of educational leaders) have in common is that they are a forum for “thinking out loud.”  One thing I find very useful in my personal blog, and I am sure will find useful in my professional blog as well is the draft feature! I can type anything I want, and as long as I don’t hit ‘publish,’ it is in a safe place.  I can get all my thoughts, concerns, and frustrations out and then simply walk away.  Later, when I have had time both to calm down and process everything, I can come back, edit, and make sense of what has happened.  Then I can publish my thoughts, after reflecting.  Another reason I think my professional blog will be useful is simply that I type much faster than I can write.  I have lots of ideas, and not a lot of time to write them down.  Hopefully, with the advent of this new blog, I will be able to get some of those thoughts down so that when I do have time to reflect, my thoughts are preserved, and can get the attention they might (or might not!) deserve.
